Best Practices for Creating Portfolios

Learn more about recommendations for creating portfolios in a workspace.

If your organization is underwriting individual assets or child deals within a parent deal, we recommend using TermSheet Portfolios. 

Review the following questions to determine the best workflow for your organization.

Are portfolios right for your workspace?

📝 Does your organization underwrite individual assets or child deals within a portfolio/parent deal?

✅  TermSheet Portfolios allow teams to add assets to child deals that live within a parent deal. 
        What are Portfolios?

✅ TermSheet Portfolios can be linked to Excel models and updated via the TermSheet Add-in for Excel

✅ TermSheet Portfolios can provide a summary of child deal data via the panel titled "Tables (Legacy)"

What information do you have prior to creating the portfolio?

🏬Do you/do you want to have a list of assets existing in TermSheet Properties before you create the portfolio? 

✅ If you have a list of known assets that you are targeting, they can be uploaded into TermSheet via Imports in bulk.

✅ Once the Properties have been added to the workspace, they can be added to a portfolio as child deals.

🏫Do you/do you want to enter assets to TermSheet after you create a portfolio?

✅ If you want to create a Portfolio in TermSheet and then add child deals later, start by adding a deal using the "Enter Details" option.

Step 1 is to create a deal with a deal name.

✅Next, convert the deal to a portfolio. Once converted the + icon in the Locations panel can be used to add child deals to the portfolio.
